So ya after a long long time of sleeping and the occassional reading of the Special Forces book i borrowed, i decided to pick up the copy of time that lay on my bed haha... and boy did one article ignite so much interest in me that i just have to tell you all about it!
You know when u go and buy like stationery got some will put "eco-friendly" or a certain foolscap paper brand that says "ozone free"? you'd be suprised that even large companies are listed on greenwashingindex.com - a site that exposes such false green claims. yup, the term for this is greenwashing! Here's an exerpt from the time article.
The first step to cleaning up greenwashing is to identify it, and Tuerff and his partners have hit on an innovative way to spotlight particularly egregious examples. They've launched the Greenwashing Index www.greenwashingindex.com) a website that allows consumers to post ads that might be examples of greenwashing and rate them on a scale of 1 to 5--1 is a little green lie; 5 is an outright falsehood.
so ya la, here is a summary of the 6 hidden myths listed on terrachoice.com that these companies blatantly put big big on their label just to scam ignorant ppl like us! but let us no longer be fooled! =D Click on the link for the full article
HIDDEN TRADE-OFF
Promotion of one aspect of a product as environmentally friendly while its negative impact is obscured
NO PROOF
Environmental claim that can be easily verified
VAGUENESS
Assertion so amorphour that its meaningless - like a "nontoxic" claim when anything could be toxic if misused
IRRELEVANCE
Claim that technically true but unimportant for the planet.
LESSER OF THE TWO EVILS
Claim that is narrowly true but ignores the larger environmental problems - like "green SUVs"
FIBBLING
Claim that is demonstrably untrue
